Eyeglasses via EOPYY

Take advantage of EOPYY coverage for eyeglasses or contact lenses

– The Unified Health Benefits Regulation provides for a reimbursement of €100 for the purchase of prescription eyeglasses or contact lenses, provided that no other reimbursement has been received in the last 4 years.

– For the treatment of presbyopia, reimbursement is granted to insured persons over 40 years of age, provided that no other pair has been supplied within the previous four years.

– For insured persons with keratoconus, the cost of keratoconic lenses is covered, €70 per lens, with the possibility of replacement every six months, where required.

Reimbursement for children

– For children/minor insured persons, the reimbursement for prescription eyeglasses is also €100.
– Replacement is allowed every 2 years, provided there is a new medical report from an ophthalmologist.
– In case of a change in prescription or other ophthalmological need, replacement may be carried out earlier, with a reasoned medical report.
– For contact lenses, the same financial coverage as for adults applies (€100 or €70 per keratoconic lens), only where there is a medical necessity.

Steps to complete the process

A. Vision Examination
Visit an ophthalmologist contracted with EOPYY or an ophthalmologist at a general or military hospital.
After the examination, they will issue a computerised prescription (E.K.P.Y. benefits report).

B. Eyeglass Fabrication
Once you have chosen the optical store of your preference and your order has been completed, you will receive:
– the Purchase Receipt, on the back of which your full name will be written, and
– the Optician’s Certificate of Prescription Execution, which certifies that the prescription has been dispensed.

C. Submission of Reimbursement Request to EOPYY
You can complete the process in one of two ways:

1️⃣ Electronically, via the website eopyy.gov.gr → Health Insurance File (FAY),
using your Taxisnet credentials.
Submit the required documents:
– Purchase Receipt
– Optician’s Certificate
– E.K.P.Y. Benefits Report
– (and, if requested, an IBAN account)

2️⃣ Via a Citizens’ Service Centre (KEP)

For those who find the electronic process difficult, there is the option to submit the reimbursement request via a KEP.
When you visit, you will need:
– Police ID card or passport (mandatory for identification)
– Computerised EOPYY report (with the barcode)
– Purchase receipt
– Certificate of prescription execution from the optical store
– (optional) IBAN account, in case it is not already registered

The KEP enters your request electronically into the EOPYY system and the reimbursement is paid directly into your bank account after the supporting documents have been checked.
